Ms Baker is a pioneer and a leader in the Oriental Medical profession both nationally and locally. As President of the ILaaom (fna ISAA) In 1997, Ms. Baker wrote, and with the help of lobbyist Steven Morrill, passed the initial legislation that created a license for acupuncturists in the State of Illinois. In 2004 she and Mr. Morrill successfully negotiated an agreed-bill with the Illinois State Medical Society that ultimately gave all licensed acupuncturists in Illinois independent practice. This bill removed the requirement that patients first have a prescription from an MD, DC or DO before being able to see an acupuncturist. Most recently, Ms. Baker assisted in the passage of a third bill, known as the Acupuncture Sunset Act, which continues the Acupuncture Practice Act for another 10 years.
From 1993 to 2001, Ms. Baker was on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (aaaomonline.org) and was its President from 1996-98. For years, she has worked to help her profession gain acceptance in the United States and to educate patients, the media, and legislators about the benefits of Oriental Medicine. She served as Chair of the following AAAOM Committees: Herbal Medicine, Elections, and the Safety Data Base Task Force. In September, 2009, Ms. Baker was a key note speaker at the National Foundation of Women Legislators annual conference in Albuquque, NM.
Claudette organized and taught classes for the Institute of Chinese Herbology (CA) Certification program for acupuncturists, and has taught Chinese Herbs for oncology at the national level to her colleagues. Her practice consists primarily of internal medicine, ob/gyn, oncology, pediatrics and acupuncture orthopedics. She has studied Auricular Acupuncture extensively and holds a certification from the AAAOM for laser acupuncture.
In 2009, Ms. Baker was appointed to the Illinois Board of Acupuncture.
